When I am out taking pictures, I know that typically I will need to tweak the image later to get the beauty and the details to shine through. Other times everything falls into place and the light hits an image just right so that what I capture with my lens is essentially the look I want to achieve. This was one of those days.
It was hot day, I was tired, all I wanted to do was go home and sit on the sofa enjoying the AC while checking out the images I captured on my laptop. I had spent the late afternoon walking around my local botanical garden taking pictures and was just about ready to head back home. But as I was walking by a group of plants teeming with butterflies and bees something caught my eye. While I had already captured some images of insects on these grouping of plants, the lighting was different now. The setting sun created a glow that brought out the beauty of the colors of the Lantana flowers in contrast to the green leaves of the plant and the insects crawling over them.
My eye immediately went to this one bee. The light was hitting it just right exposing the richness of its colors and in turn its beauty. So, my camera came up to my eye and I shot a few images of this convergence of light with the flowers, leaves, and of course my subject the bee. These images turned out to be some of my favorite pictures of that day. It was a matter of being in the right place at the right time with the right lighting to capture to moment in all it’s glory.
